Hi, u might not know me cause i googled ntu accountancy and i came to your blog. i just wanna ask u abt ntu acct. i am currently deciding btw nus or ntu acct. den yesterday when i went nbs and ntu campus, i was shocked. it was sooo boring. however, aesthetics aside, could u advise me which is better especially next time when going out to work in a big 4? plus i stay like at pasir ris. so ya... please advise me. thanks!
LOL Lu! u mean bird inbetw the hong zhong right? LOL
anon, didnt know googling for ntu acct will bring ppl to my blog! lol. during my time there was only ntu and smu acct, so honestly im not sure abt nus acct. if u find nus and ntu boring, why dont consider smu? smu is supposed to be more vibrant but costly and u have to spend one more year to get the same degree without honours for god-knows-why. during my time, smu grads tend to prefer to go banks and banks tend to take in more smu ppl i think. but when i was in big4 i had a numbers of peers from smu and now that i managed to get into a bank my peers are almost all from ntu. of cuz mine is not representative of the whole population. but generally i dont really see a difference in capabilities/prospects betw ntu and smu grads, so i would think it wld be the same for nus grads as well. well if it helps, the current batch of interns in the bank im working in now are a good mixture of ntu nus and smu, so ya, seems like employers really dont have any preference over any uni as long as the candidate is good.
Hi, thanks for your advise. i have decided to come to ntu acct. Can i ask u , is it very difficult to get into banks for ntu acct grads? if i go to big 4 for 2-3 years, is it easy to go to banks afterwards? how did u get poached by the banks last time?
i did not get poached by any banks, to the contrary, i tried very hard to get in. usually banks look for ex-auditors with banking audit experience, i have zero banking audit experience hence it was difficult for me to get in. but i do have ex-auditor colleagues in rbs now who has zero banking experience as well.
if u want to go to a bank, might as well join as a fresh grad, starting pay is much higher. i went into Big4 1st because i didnt know what i wanted to do. after joining Big4, im determined not to be a regular bookkeeper or to do tax hahaha.
i must say it feels super duper weird to be sharing my acctancy life on my blogpost about the er tong and bird inbetw the hong zhong btw. LOL.
Hi there again. lol. but i thought its a must to get big 4 after graduation to get some experience? is pwc easy to get in? what honours can get in? cause i aiming for pwc. lol. pwc got a huge base of banks for clients or not?
