frm phnom penh to siem reap
we took e Mekong Express Limousine Bus frm Phnom Penh to Siem Reap.

it's e best bus service provider in Cambodia, mostly doing mid-dist travel. phnom penh to siem reap, phnom penh to ho chi minh, etc.

abit disappointed tat e seats are not e SVIP kind (like Grassland Express) tho, it's juz e normal kind. alotta angmohs on e fully-packed bus with us.

realli is high class de lorz, they even gave us 'check-in slips' for our luggage. USD10 (SGD15) is pretty gd price for 'inflight' host + water + snacks + toilet huh.
crossing e Cambodian-Japanese Friendship Bridge. it's e most modern transportation structure i came across in Camb.
i dont even see such colossal piece of plain grassland when i was in china lorz. 'in e wilderness'~

tis is mostly wat i see throughout e 6hr bus ride: attap houses, narrow dirt roads, lotsa honking.
there's no decent expressway, n i dont rem seeing any public buses on their roads, definitely no trains. so u can guess e std of their infrastructure.

there's a whole buncha guys with signboards crowding outside e bus terminal in Siem Reap lorz, machiam like on strike lidat.
but they'r juz tuktuk touts lahz, waiting to prey on us tourists. bah~
n we were touted by e 1st tuktuk driver we saw, Mr Lim, who speaks e best english among all cambodians we've come across.

Angkor Star Hotel is juz 10min tuktuk ride away frm e bus terminal, looks gd on e outside.

ey but both hotels have approx e same rates wor! SGD60+ per nite. hmmm~
our room even overlooks their swimming pool! but we nv had e chance to dip in their pool lahz.
after settling down, we took a USD6 (SGD9) 20min tuktuk ride to e boat deck. to our horror, entry to e Floating Village has doubled since Lonely Planet came!
frm USD10 to USD20 (SGD30) lorz! wth. i dont tink e 2hr Floating Village of Chong Khneas boat ride is worth freaking SGD30. cheat my $$!
but anyways, e village has got alotta infrastructure afloat, like schools n church.
and e village ppl mostly earn a living frm fishing in e Tonle Sap Lake.
tats e boatman n his adorable daughter (who din ask us for $, which makes her an unusual Camb kid).
e above shot looks kinda artistic, no? haha~
there's like a 30min stopover at tis floating fish farm/restaurant, where we saw crocodiles.
(by nw can u tell tat im realli not impressed by e floating village??)

Mr Lim mite be richer than me lorz, his diamond ring is so huge! e Camb tuktuk driver who's richer than e Sg tourist.
these girls asked for money frm e angmoh who took a photo of em in those cute water basins. heng they nv saw me taking e same photo. haha~
sunset at Siem Reap~
if they'r extorting so much money frm e numerous tourists who paid USD20 to visit, why is their living condition still not improving?? heh~
dinner at Ly Ly Restaurant beside our hotel, a small eatery tat serves realli yummy cambodian beef noodle soup n chicken fried noodles at USD1 (SGD1.50) each!
night mkt 15min walk frm our hotel, abit like Suan Lum Night Bazaar in Bangkok.
more atas than Central Mkt n Russian Mkt. surprisingly low prices for a place tat looks like it's out to extort e alr highly extorted tourists.

a day of shopping in cambodia!
our 2nd day in Cambodia Phnom Penh started off with Central Mkt (Psar Thmei), which is near our hotel.

it's HUGE lahz. like e cambodian version of Chatuchak (in Bangkok), but much cooler. prob cuz it has an actual bldg, less exposed to e powerful sunlight.

bot shoes, bags, lady's clothes, men's clothes, etc. their designs are not as trendy lahz, but cheap cheap ah!
after a bout of crazy shopping, we lunched at a local fastfood joint.
Luck Cafe, Luck Burger, even Luck Gelato! Prices are half that in Sg lorz, n taste is nonetheless comparable to those in Sg.
our 1st tuktuk ride! frm hotel to Tuol Sleng, abt 15min. abit too far to walk, else most of e other attractions we travelled on foot.
i've nv been on a tuktuk b4, therefore it was quite an experience.
we were soooo close to their lawless traffic, plus totally unshielded frm e voluminous smoke n sand on e roads. woo~ haha~
they lack funds to preserve e place, which is e case for most places of interest in Cambodia.

it's a profoundly depressing place documenting e atrocities committed during e Khmer Rouge regime.
frm wat e ignorant me understood, Khmer Rouge is e cambodian equivalent of
Adolf Hitler the Nazi. a sadistic dictator group. (thx sissy for correcting me, omg i AM ignorant)
Khmer Rouge detained n tortured suspected revolters in Tuol Sleng, which used 2b a high sch. above are e tombs of e last 14 victims.
these are e security regulations when those atrocities took place, like e ten commandments to e detainees lidat.
yul n me wanted to to hire a tour guide, but they ran outta guides! so we had to rely on e not-so-helpful guide book to tell us wats gg on. bah~
tis is one of e torture rooms, which used 2b a classrm. there'r photos of hw e victims looked when found dead in e rooms, awfully disturbing.
my guess is tat e metal bed was used to electrify e victims, since they wont be so nice to give their victims a bed n electrification is one of their tortures.

victims were mostly bludgeoned or tortured to death, to 'conserve expensive bullets'. hehz~
"like e Nazis, Khmer Rouge was meticulous in keeping records of his barbarism. Each prisoner was photographed, stimes b4 n after torture".
there were tons of photos of prisoners in e museum, but i snapped tis cuz e mother had such intense look of despair in her eyes. gosh~
metal shackles used to bind e prisoners tog. they were binded feet to feet n packed into a hall, laid on e floor in an inhumane way. haiz~
e barbed wires were used to prevent desperate prisoners frm committing suicide lorz. wat sia.
seriously i donno hw a human can perform such sadistic acts to his other fellow humans. seriously~
tats e cell tat they used for imprisonment.
e family of suspected revolters were oso imprisoned in order to fully eradict all nuance of revolution. 斩草除根 eh. hehz~

whoever (i tink it's e Vietnamese) liberated e cambodians frm Khmer Rouge deserves a huge round of applause.
we left e disheartening place n walked to nearby Russian Mkt (Psar Tuol Tom Pong). we din get to spend alotta time there cuz it's nearing closing.
it's a place tat sells lotsa factory rejects frm US brands like Hollister, Abercrombie, Gap, etc. Items were gg as low as USD3 (SGD4.50) per piece!
so it's like a day of mixed feelings eh, Tuol Sleng versus shopping. hmmm~

cambodia: after national museum...
we wandered around e national museum area, n came across a mkt which i still cant identify on e map....

interesting sight: tis uncle is not selling ordinary duck eggs lorz.
tats actually a half-hatched fertilized egg (bong dia gon). kinda like a typical cambodian food lidat, it's all over e streets.
yul bot one n tried. we cld see e feathers n eyes of e baby duck lorz. omg. it was quite an overwhelming sight for me.
but she oni ate e egg yolk part n said it tasted like e usual salted duck egg. hmmm~
n it's pretty much e full pkg we get in sg lorz. dirt cheap. but it's juz a small roadside stall in e wet mkt lahz, nt as comfy. oh well~

Tonle Sap River, that famous river in Phnom Penh tat devoured 5 Singaporean dragonboaters v recently.

we sat along e river n nua-ed abit, taking a break frm all e monuments n statues....
b4 embarking on a boat ride along e Tonle Sap River and Mekong River (these 2 rivers r sorta interconnected).
e ride wasnt cheap, USD15 (SGD22) for 1hr for 2 pax. we had e whole boat to ourselves tho.
sunset starts at 530 in cambodia, dark by 6pm. we were juz in time to catch sunset along e rivers.
but seriously, nth much interesting to see during e boat ride lorz.

dinner at Titanic Restaurant! it's situated right beside e tourist boat deck, where we alight frm e boat ride.
food is extremely gd, esp as compared to e yucky lunch at Khmer Borane earlier in e day.
we ordered khmer chicken hotpot n duck skewers. both were absolutely tasty! tink we spent abt USD16 (SGD24) there, reasonable price for excellent food.

e restaurant looks like a wat somemore, nice ambience. a tad cold tho, vast day/nite temperature difference in cambodia.
tis restaurant is a popular one, lotsa angmohs n rich cambodians patronise it. why did Lonely Planet feature Khmer Borane but not Titanic?? hehz~
finally, a great meal! khmer food can taste great too, afterall. hehe~
next up: shopping in Phnom Penh!
